Understanding that man is a three-part being aids ones Inner Healing & Deliverance journey. When one goes through the process, all parts of them will receive healing through the power of the Holy Spirit. Each part of our being is effected differently by the demonic. When we go through healing and deliverance, the Lord brings healing to specific parts of our being, in which the enemy sought to steal, kill, and destroy. This blog post educates some key points in how we function and operate as a three-part being- body, soul, and spirit.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NIV)

“23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Man is broken into a 3 part being. The body, soul, and spirit. Here is what each does according to it’s function:

  • Body- The physical encasement that we can see and touch.

  • Soul- The thoughts, feelings, emotions, the will and the “heart.”

  • Spirit- The God-breathed part. The part that returns to God after we die.

According to The Children’s Bread by Mark Chase, “Man’s three-part nature also permits an understanding of the other critical area of our ministry, inner healing, which is primarily the healing of the fragmented soul” (Chase, 2020, p. 140). Mark Chase goes on to explain further “…Genesis 1:27 teaches us that our one God is plural AND that we are made in this plural image” (Chase, 2020, p. 141).

Let’s explore Genesis 1:27 together:

“God created humankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them,
male and female he created them. (NET)”

In the beginning, God loved His creation of man so much, that He chose man to be made in His image. He made flesh and blood in the image of a perfect God. However, that is not all that we are. From the moment of creation, Adam was body, soul, and spirit. From the moment of conception, a baby has a body, soul, and spirit. Creation of man is from God and is a three-part form (Father, Son, & Holy Spirit). We have God’s spiritual DNA alongside a specific spiritual purpose, in which only we can carry out on this Earth (Psalm 139:14; Ephesians 2:10). Our purpose is so important as Christians, that God shares with us that from the beginning of time, before we are formed in our mothers womb, before we knew Him and the Holy Spirit entered us, that He knew us and the purpose and function of the reborn spirit that He would one day place within us. Let’s explore a few verses showing this, together:

Jeremiah 1:5 (NET)

“5 Before I formed you in your mother’s womb I chose you.
Before you were born I set you apart.
I appointed you to be a prophet to the nations.”

This verse highlights that the Lord “formed” our bodies in our mother’s womb. It also teaches us that we are “set apart” and “appointed” before birth, to carry out specific assignments on this Earth. The Lord predestined our fellowship and relationship with Him, and he decreed and declared the exact operation that our spirit is meant to carry out on this Earth, as a part of the body of Christ.

Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

“10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

This verse shows us the words “handiwork” and “created,” revealing that God’s design of our bodies (height, hair/eye/skin color, figure), souls (mind, intellect, understandings), and spirits (gifting(s)/anointing) are all intentional and divinely purposed. What God creates is good. It is His will for it to not be perverted by the enemy. It also states that our work on this Earth has been “prepared in advance for us to do.” The Lord has a ministry assignment for each of His children. I will dive deeper into that topic in another blog post.

Ezekiel 36:26–27 (ESV)

“26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.”

The bible is clear that the Lord sees the heart, and not just the physical body that man initially sees (1 Samuel 16:7). Here, the Lord is saying that he will “give” us a new heart, showing that our desires and intentions (soul) will undergo a change after salvation. The Lord also teaches us about the renewal of our mind (soul), and how it is a transformative process (Romans 12:12). The Lord then goes on to say that He will “put a new spirit” in us, and even uses the specific words “my Spirit.” It is this very Spirit that the Lord puts in us, that becomes the place of rebirth at salvation, and a sacred dwelling place for the Holy Spirit. It is the power of the Holy Spirit in our spirit, and it’s transformative power, that over time causes the transformation to occur in our soul (heart, mind, will, emotions, desires, intent). As the soul continues to be healed, we also see the physical manifestations in our body through being healed of sickness, ailments, and disease (spiritual roots). In deliverance through Christ, the rebirth of the spirit leads to the healing of the soul and spiritual roots, which then leads to the physical manifestations of healing in the body. Accepting Christ as ones Lord and savior is the beginning step of long-term sanctification. It is in “following [the Lord’s] decrees” and being “careful to keep [His] laws,” that the Lord shields and protects all made in His image from the demonic (demonization, mental health challenges, abuse, poverty and lack, sickness and disease, etc).

God sanctifies our body, soul, and spirit. Like our creator (God), we are a three-part being!

As long as we are on this Earth, we will not be without sin. Either we will be sinning knowingly/unknowingly, or willingly/unwillingly. Whether it is done against us, or if we ourselves are the perpetrator, we are exposed to sin. Until God’s day comes for us to be with Him in Heaven, as well as Christ’s return, this means that we will be exposed to things that are contrary to the Lord’s will, purpose, and plan for our life. This calls for the need of the Inner Healing & Deliverance ministry- BOTH inside and outside of the church. Inner Healing & Deliverance allows the power of the Holy Spirit to heal the soul (mind, will, emotions, thoughts, intent, desires, heart) as well as the body (afflictions, sickness, disease, and even iniquities in physical appearance). It is through accepting Christ, surrendering to the Lord’s will for our life, and going through the sanctification process that we being to walk and operate in the fullness of life and our God-appointed calling.

Below is a prayer that readers can pray, to apply what you read above! As you read it, pay attention to how your body, soul, and spirit respond! The Lord will heal and align you, with every word.

“Ancient of Days, I call my body, soul, and spirit into alignment with the purposes and plans you have for my life. I call my organ functioning and health into alignment with your original created functioning. I seal it all here in the blood, and bring it to the Court of Heaven for your divine intervention in my life. I repent for the times that I did not operate according to your will. I renounce all ungodly agreements made through these sins, and ask that you mark them null and void in the spiritual realm. The enemy has no authority to enforce this. I cover all of these sins in the blood and ask that you lose what is needed into my life, as well as my lineage and bloodline. I surrender my body, soul, and spirit to Your will. I bind my family and I’s entire being to the straight and narrow path, and to what You have written for us in the Lambs Book of Life. I decree and declare that ALL that you have written for us will come to pass! We will go from glory to glory, all the days of our life.”
