As Christians, the Lord gives His children authority over the enemy. One of the weapons of our warfare is the authority and the ability in the spiritual realm to bind and loose. This allows believers to bind and loose the enemy. In the case of this prayer, binding ties up the enemy and stops them from continuing their attacks (think of a rope). In the case of this prayer, loosing is calling on things to be released into your life, and to allow these things to be set free for their God intended functions (think of a key). It is the power of the Holy Spirit that allows binding and loosing to be effect in the spiritual realm. It is through Jesus Christ and the authority that He passed to God’s children at his ascension, that gave us this weapon of warfare.
